Equine Photography

Traditionally, horses are used in warfare in the ancient times. Horses and humans have a special bond and throughout the years they have melded seamlessly. Capturing the beauty of this majestic creature will offer a stunning work of art.

Equine photography is a type of photography that features horses as the subject. This type of photography includes incredible photos of horses either at work or at play. Shooting horses may not go well as you planned it, because in nature, these lovely creatures are unpredictable. Creativity is what you need to achieve stunning results of your horses.

When doing an equine photography, there are many factors to consider such as the light, angle, background and surroundings, panning, lens selection, and composition.

Light greatly affects the texture of your photos, too much light or lack of light could possibly result to dark pictures, blurry pictures, or sharp pictures. Deciding on which time of the day you want to capture your subject will give you a good shot.

High or low angles could have a big impact on your photos. If your angle is lower than the subject, your horse could look bigger or appear differently while an angle higher than your horse could result to a smaller look of the subject.

When photographing horses, background and surroundings should also be considered. Distracting objects in the background could take attention away from your subject.

Panning is a technique you can use to show the speed of the event. Whether you are taking photos of your subject running or kicking in the field or photographing equestrian events, panning allows you to have a motion blur in the background while leaving your subject in focus.

There are many lenses or zoom settings to choose from that will each give a different perception. Choosing the best one depends on your budget.
